I’m looking at fitting a new hot water cylinder and boiler but would like mains pressure hot water. I’ve been told that the unvented systems need to be installed by a qualified engineer and inspected yearly due to the explosion risk if a fault develops?
So i’m looking into the vented type but can’t seem to find much info on them, does anyone have any info, experiance or know of supplies in the uk.
Finally i don’t want a combi system as you can’t draw much hot water off before the flow rate drops!

there are lots of these on the market but you still need them serviced annually . what your talking about is a vented mains pressure hot water cylinder , the ones i use are made by macdonald engineering and the range is called thermflow , they come as combination units meaning it has a small storage tank above the unit to fill it , or cylinder type where you can fill it from a tank in the attic , and of course generally once its filled with water thats it although due to expansion and contraction the ball valve will fill once in a while and also replenish the heat store when drained . it works by heating the water inside the store or cylinder to a predetermined temp this heated water them heats the mains water by means of a coil then then once it eits the store it passes through a mixing valve at the desired temp .hope this lot helps and doesnt confuse the subject , they are successfull but in my opinion not as good as unvented cylinders .

My system is an electric hot water open top boiler/header tank direct from the mains situated on the top floor. It is regulated via a Portsmouth valve. I also have a white meter tariff which is useful for the bills. It should be easy to install yourself if you don’t mind removing floor boards. Check with the local authority as regulations differ.

COMBI BOILER YOU CAN DRAW AS MUCH HOT WATER AS YOU WANT PRESSURE DOES NOT CHANGE AS THE WATER IS NOT STORED (PLUMBER)

Mains hot water is only possible using either a pressurized stainless steel cylinder- very expensive!
Or an instant hot water electric heater – low delivery rate.
Or an instant hot water gas boiler – low delivery rate.
The way to go, is a vented copper cylinder, using at least 22mm (best 28mm) pipes to deliver a mass of low pressure hot water.
If you want, you can add a pump between the cylinder and the taps to increase the pressure.
But!!! This means you have to have a water meter as pumps use a lot of water.
